Sophie and her husband Charles purchased Culworth Grounds Farm in 2006 to establish a bloodstock business of excellence. With no prior equestrian provision, today the farm has 60 loose boxes, an all-weather gallop, indoor and outdoor arenas, lunging arenas, a viewing paddock and hundreds of acres of outdoor grazing.
The farm is home to 60-80 horses, a combination of foals, yearlings, the farm’s band of brood mares and racehorses in training on-rest. Presently, the Culworth brand is making great waves in the bloodstock world. In only in her fourth year of trading, her multidisciplinary approach, using breaking and conditioning techniques from the world of dressage and showing to give young racehorses the best possible start in life, is elevating a Culworth Ground’s horse in the market.
Buyers of Culworth yearlings, appreciating their calibre, often return them back to the farm after sale to be broken in, and the farm has a regular population of horses in training sent for R&R by the UK’s most famous owners and trainers, devotees of Sophie’s methods in producing and conditioning potential world-class thoroughbreds.
