THE IMPORTANCE OF SEMEN QUALITY

In order to complete an AI collection there are parameters in which the semen should fall into. Should the semen quality not meet these parameters the semen will be unlikely to result in successful coverings. It has also been discovered that age is an influencer on healthy sperm, as the stallion ages the sperm motility and quality tends to decrease, with reduced mitochondria capabilities witnessed in particular after the age of twelve.

THE THROUGHBRED STALLION

For the Thoroughbred market the Jockey Club only supports live coverings which will limit the number of mares each stallion can cover in a season. Libido has to be maintained for the stallion to endure an adequate level of fitness and interest, this has to be supported by adequate sperm production and motility.

THE COMPETITION STALLION

The competition stallion tends to have a reduced concentration of sperm that shows a lack of motility and with spermatogenesis taking at least 6 weeks, it is therefore imperative to support the developmental process of the sperm in order to complete successful coverings.

THE BREED STALLION

With some breeds now present on endangered lists, helping to secure positive sperm production can help provide a brighter future for the species. There have been significant semen breed variants discovered in some trials.

Low, or loss of libido in stallions, whether short-term or chronic, is a serious issue for the stallion owner and breeding yard, and can limit an individual stallion, both in terms of economic and genetic success. Trials report up to a quarter of all stallions can exhibit fertility limiting behaviour, so it is an important consideration in the management of many stallions.

FERTILITY FOR STALLIONS

When looking to breed from your stallion, help maximise their breeding potential with innovative nutraceutical Five Star Fertility for Stallions. Ideally begin feeding around 6-8 weeks before stud duties are due to commence to allow for spermatogenesis to take place and continue to feed throughout the covering season.

Why feed?

Feed to support productivity while helping to maintain and maximise fertility in hard working stallions, travelling stallions and when fertility limiting behaviour issues are witnessed.

How does Fertility for Stallions work?

Advanced nutrition is included to address libido and generate their interest. While sperm production, sperm health and the ability to sustain development is targeted. Total sperm motility is also a key factor Fertility for Stallions looks to support in order to help provide progressive motility to achieve effective fertilisation.

Trialled with young, inexperienced stallions through to older stallions where fertility may be reducing with age and those stallions where sub-fertility was recognised.

INGREDIENTS

Natural Vitamin E - The natural of Vitamin E (RRR-alpha-tocopheryl-acetate) is chosen as it is proven to have better absorption and better efficiency than the more commonly used synthetic form.

Zinc - Included as an important co-factor of the antioxidant cascade, but also because low zinc is associated with depressed testosterone levels, while positive levels of zinc correlate positively with both semen volume and viability.

Organic Selenium - A supporting antioxidant to target free radicals.

Omega 3 fatty acids - Including DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), as research supports their use, particularly for semen quality in fresh and cooled semen. The omega fatty acids contribute to the essential lipids, which are central to sperm quality, as they are an integral part of both the sperm body and sperm cell membrane.

Vitamin A - For normal sperm production and development.

Pre and Probiotics - For optimum nutritional absorption.

Adaptogenic Herbs - Support sexual performance and target virility and vitality.

Carnitine - Positively supports sperm concentration and motility while addressing total motile morphologically.

Arginine - Targets libido and overall sperm health.

Meet the Team Behind Five Star Fertility

NAF Five Star Fertility is the result of a long development process, involving experts both from the team at NAF and those working with leading stallions in equine fertility.

Five Star Development by NAF

'I'm really proud of Five Star Fertility for Stallions, as it represents the true strengths of NAF, combining pure academic nutrition with traditional herbal complexes to get the best of both worlds. It has been a privilege to work with some real experts in their fields, and both the evidence and encouragement from the studs has been so positive. I really believe this product has an exciting future supporting world class breeding.'

'After witnessing the results first hand, we recommend Fertility for Stallions for all stallions as a matter of course.'

When should I feed Fertility?

The process of spermatogenesis takes around 6-8 weeks in the horse, and therefore we advise feeding for at least six weeks prior to the start of covering. The results in semen quality will take this period of time to see a difference. However stallion owners and managers report seeing the effects on vitality, condition and behaviour after just a few weeks. Once established, stallions should then be fed Fertility daily through the season.

Has Fertility been tested?

Fertility for Stallions has gone through a four year development programme, which has included field trials across all Performance Horse disciplines, Racing and Showing. We have been thrilled that truly World Class stallions have been involved in those trials, and the benefits reported back to us.

In addition to field trials, we have been delighted to work with Tullis Matson and the team at Stallion A.I. Services, where laboratory trials, analyzing like for like data, has shown the benefit of Five Star Fertility for all stallions.

Is Fertility for Stallions just for the sub-fertile stallion?

No, absolutely not! We recommend Fertility for all breeding stallions. When you're looking at supporting optimum semen mobility, concentration and morphology even the smallest percentage increase is incredibly important. Small increases may help to take your boy from a 'pass' or 'good' to an 'excellent', suitable for advanced fertility technologies such cooling, freezing and semen sexing.

Is Fertility for Stallions suitable to compete on?

We know how many multi-tasking stallions are working hard, both competing and meeting their stud duties. Fertility for Stallions is recommended to help maintain condition and vitality in all their work. Fertility for Stallions is produced to the highest of standards under the GMP+ quality standard, and covered by the BETA NOPS accreditation for feed and feed supplements in competing horses.

Is Fertility for Stallions just for A.I. collection?

No, while Fertility for Stallions is a great choice for stallions doing A.I. collections, it is equally suitable to natural cover stallions. It is true that the action of the unique synergistic blend on semen characteristics can only be scientifically assessed via A.I. However, those benefits are also seen by stallion managers in the field, working with the natural covering stallion in terms of condition, stamina and fertility rates in the mares.

The unique blend of herbs in Five Star Fertility for stallion behaviour are particularly recommended for the natural covering stallion, who typically are working harder during the covering season than the A.I. stallion.

Which Vitamin E is in Fertility, as I believe the natural form is better?

You are right that Natural Vitamin E, correctly known as ‘RRR alpha-tocopherol' is more bioavailable and effective than the more usual synthetic form. Five Star Fertility uses Natural Vitamin E, working in synergy with the organic selenium yeast form of selenium to ensure that the Vitamin E and Selenium combination in Fertility is both safe and effective to feed.
