Fern is the daughter of Grade 1 winning trainer Fergal O’Brien and ex amateur jockey Angelica Nolan. Fern started pony racing at the age of 11 and by the age of 14 she was already schooling her father’s racehorses over fences alongside the likes of professional jockeys Paddy Brennan and Adam Wedge.
When Fern turns 16 next year she will be applying for her amateur licence and plans to ride for a couple of season as an amateur jockey before turning Conditional after finishing her A Levels. Whilst the Grand National is on her list of races she would most like to win, her ultimate ambition is to become the first female jockey to win the Gold Cup. She loves the quality and class of the horses that run in the race and of course, it is run at her local and favourite track, Cheltenham. T
he horse she is most excited about for the upcoming jumps season is Silver Hallmark whom she schools regularly. We are looking forward to following Fern on her journey to obtaining her jockeys license and her season at Ravenswell Farm.
