Managing the Good Do-er

Owners of good do-ers were anticipating the longer days to increase horse’s exercise and fitness. That now has to change. Managing the good do-er through lockdown will be vital to avoid potential long-term health problems.

• Remove any concentrate feed and feed forage alone, balanced with a suitable product, NAF Slim Pellets. Don’t forget the NAF Himalayan Salt Lick.
• Maintain exercise, if possible, either as your own daily exercise, or through arrangement with your horse’s carer.
• Take rugs off good do-ers. Going naked will help them maintain a healthy weight and, don’t worry, horses have a much lower thermal neutral zone (TNZ) than us, they’ll appreciate it.
• Monitor weight weekly using a weigh tape – or improvise using string with a knot tied in it!
