Letting down the fit horse

Many of us with fit horses, ready for the season, now face adjustments we hadn’t planned. The most critical is managing diet change, as the greatest risk comes from both feeding the wrong type or amount of feed, but also from making the wrong changes.

• Concentrate feed – Remove completely or reduce drastically, as overfeeding could cause serious health issues.
• Fibre and forage – Increase fibre using your usual source initially. During lockdown forage will provide sufficient energy for rest or light work.
• Balance the diet shortages of forage, and support gut health through the change, by using a concentrated balancer, NAF Five Star Optimum Balancer.
• Don’t forget horses still need a NAF Himalayan Salt Lick.
